HLSMate

Save web videos with support for HLS/M3U8 streams, MP4/WebM files, and live media.

Built for web video saving

HLSMate keeps discovery in the extension popup and heavy media processing inside a dedicated downloader page.

HLS/M3U8 downloads

Parse playlists, fetch segments, and merge them in order for common VOD streams.

MP4/WebM files

Detect static video files, show format and size, then save them locally.

Per-tab detection

The popup only lists media discovered on the active tab.

Speed and threads

Track progress, speed, segment count, and automatic or manual thread selection.

Local processing

Media loading and merging happen in your browser, not on a third-party server.

Failure recovery path

Lower the thread count and retry when a media server rejects parallel requests.

How it works

The extension discovers media; the downloader page handles progress, large files, and stream segments.

  1. 1Install the extension

Add HLSMate to Edge or Chrome and pin it to the toolbar.

  2. 2Open a video page

Play the target video so the extension can capture media requests.

  3. 3Choose a resource

Open the popup and pick the detected HLS, M3U8, MP4, or WebM resource.

  4. 4Load and save

The downloader page opens automatically, loads the media, then lets you save it locally.

Install links

Replace these buttons with store URLs after the Edge and Chrome listings are published. During development, follow the install guide to load the local extension.

FAQ

Why open a downloader page?

HLS/M3U8 video often contains many segments. A dedicated page is more reliable for progress, temporary data, and large files.

Does it support YouTube?

No. HLSMate does not bypass DRM, sign-in restrictions, or platform-specific technical protections.

Are videos uploaded?

No. Loading and merging happen locally in the browser.

What if no video is detected?

Start playback, wait a few seconds, then reopen the popup. Some custom players may not expose downloadable resources.
