Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the HLSMate website and browser extension handle information. Last updated: July 6, 2026.

Core statement

HLSMate detects videos, loads media, and merges HLS/M3U8 segments locally in your browser. We do not upload your downloaded videos, media URLs, page titles, or download history to our servers.

Information we may process

  • Media resources detected in the active tab, such as HLS, M3U8, MP4, or WebM URLs. They are used to show the popup list and pass a task to the local downloader page.
  • Temporary downloader task data, such as filename, segment progress, thread selection, and loading status. This data remains in the browser page.
  • Local preferences, such as the static video size filter and selected thread mode, may be stored in browser local storage.
  • The website server may generate standard access logs such as IP address, browser type, access time, and request path for security, debugging, and basic operations.

Extension permissions

  • activeTab / tabs: identify the active page and keep media lists scoped to the current tab.
  • webRequest: detect video, audio, and streaming playlist requests.
  • downloads: start browser file saves.
  • storage: save local preferences such as filters and thread settings.
  • scripting / content scripts: communicate with the active page and downloader page where needed.

What we do not do

  • We do not upload, host, or transcode your media files.
  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We do not bypass DRM, Widevine, PlayReady, sign-in restrictions, or technical protection measures.
  • We do not intentionally collect page text, account names, passwords, or form contents.

Third-party services and links

The website may link to Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, documentation, feedback channels, or other external websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices. Please review their policies when you visit them.

Disclosure

We do not disclose personally identifiable information unless required by law, needed to protect service security, needed to respond to abuse, or authorized by you.

Updates

We may update this policy as the product, listing requirements, or legal requirements change. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date.
